Gavril (Galev)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"478\" data-end=\"648\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">At the <strong data-start=\"485\" data-end=\"519\">Liturgy of St. Basil the Great<\/strong>, a large number of faithful participated, giving thanks to God and receiving <strong data-start=\"597\" data-end=\"647\">Holy Communion of the Holy Mysteries of Christ<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>During the Liturgy, the Holy Gospel from Mark 2:1\u201312 was read, which recounts the event when the Lord Jesus Christ was preaching in Capernaum, and many people had gathered around Him so that there was no room even to approach Him. Then four men, filled with faith and love for their sick friend, brought him to lay him before Christ. Since they could not enter because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof of the house and lowered the sick man down before the feet of the Lord. When Christ saw their faith, He first forgave his sins and then healed him of his physical illness, showing that He is the true God who has authority to forgive sins.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In his sermon, Father Gavril emphasized that this Gospel teaches us about the power of faith, love, and prayer for our neighbors. Just as those men made a great effort to bring their friend to Christ, we too are called to offer our neighbors before God with sincere prayer and love \u2014 those who suffer, who are ill, or who have strayed from the true path. If, with pure faith and perseverance, we \u201copen the roof\u201d of our hearts, the Lord will hear our prayers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It was also emphasized that often our prayers are not fulfilled because we ask from God but are not truly ready to change ourselves. The Lord calls us to spiritual struggle \u2014 to repentance, to the fight against passions, and to sincerely surrender ourselves to His will.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Last week we celebrated the Sunday of Orthodoxy, when the Church commemorates the victory of the true faith over heresies and false teachings. It is the victory of Orthodox doctrine, the true faith that the Church has preserved throughout the centuries.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But today, the second Sunday of Great Lent, dedicated to St. Gregory Palamas, shows us something even deeper \u2014 the victory of Orthodox spiritual life, the victory of truly living the faith.<\/p>\n<p>On this Sunday the Church honors St. Gregory Palamas, a great defender of the Orthodox faith and of the teaching that human beings can partake in the grace of God. He testified that God is not distant from humanity, but through the grace of the Holy Spirit He gives Himself to us and calls us into communion with Him. Through prayer \u2014 especially the Jesus Prayer: \u201cLord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner\u201d \u2014 together with fasting, good deeds, and humility, a person gradually purifies the heart from passions and draws closer to God.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Holy Fathers teach that the greatest struggle is the struggle against the passions \u2014 against excess, the love of money, and especially pride, which is the root of many other sins. Therefore, Great Lent is a time when we are called to purify our hearts, renew the grace we received in Holy Baptism, and return once again to the fullness of life with God.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>May the Lord Jesus Christ, through the prayers of St. Gregory Palamas, grant us strength and patience in the spiritual struggle of the fast, so that we may purify our hearts, strengthen our faith, and draw closer to Him with humility, love, and gratitude.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<style type=\"text\/css\">\n#foogallery-gallery-16429.fg-justified .fg-item { margin-right: 2px;
