Monastery of St. Clement, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated on the Sunday of St. John Climacus, followed by a profound and instructive sermon by Father Gavril.<\/p>\n<p>On this Sunday dedicated to the great ascetic and spiritual writer, St. John Climacus, we are reminded that the spiritual life is a continual ascent\u2014a struggle, an effort, and growth toward God.<\/p>\n<p>From today\u2019s Gospel (Mark 9:17\u201331), we heard how the apostles were unable to heal the boy, and the Lord rebuked them with the words: \u201cO faithless and perverse generation\u2026\u201d\u2014words that apply to us today as well. Father Gavril emphasized that the reason for our weakness is our lack of faith and our distance from God.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>God created us in His image and likeness and gave us a great gift\u2014to become His sons by grace. This means we are called to have authority first over ourselves\u2014over our thoughts, feelings, words, and actions. Yet we are often unstable, falling from one extreme to another, lacking spiritual consistency.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The message is clear: we must return to God through repentance, humility, and sincere confession. Instead of judging others, we should recognize and confess our own sins.<\/p>\n<p>The Father especially emphasized the importance of prayer and fasting. Prayer is not just asking, but communion with God\u2014offering ourselves. Fasting is not only physical but also spiritual\u2014abstaining from evil thoughts, words, and deeds. Through them, our faith is strengthened and our spiritual strength is renewed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The spiritual life does not tolerate \u201cstanding still.\u201d If we are not progressing, we are regressing. Therefore, we are called to continually climb our spiritual ladder, as St. John Climacus teaches us.<\/p>\n<p>True peace comes only from God.
