GATHERING IN SYDENHAM, MELBOURNE: THE FAITH WE INHERIT AND LIVE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As part of MOYA\u2019s activities, a spiritual gathering with Father Eftim and Father Gavril was held at St. Mary\u2019s (Holy Mother of God) Parish in Sydenham, Melbourne. The evening focused on preserving the Orthodox faith and the challenges young people face in contemporary society.<\/p>\n<p>Father Eftim shared personal experiences from his priestly ministry under the communist regime, when professing one\u2019s faith could bring pressure and serious consequences. His reflections reminded those present that the faith we inherit today was preserved and passed down by people who remained faithful to Christ and His Church despite hardship.<\/p>\n<p>The talks also highlighted the example of Saints Cyril and Methodius, their educational and missionary work among the Slavic peoples, and their perseverance in the face of opposition. Through the creation of the Slavonic alphabet and the translation of Scripture and liturgical texts, they enabled our ancestors to hear and understand the Gospel in their own language.<\/p>\n<p>The discussion connected these historical experiences with the lives of young people today. At university, in the workplace and on social media, they often face pressure to fit in and keep their faith to themselves. The response to these challenges, it was emphasised, lies in remaining rooted in the spiritual and sacramental life of the Church through prayer, the sign of the Cross, fasting, participation in Sunday Liturgy and confession.<\/p>\n<p>A central message of the evening was that Macedonian heritage, Orthodox faith and life in Australian society can come together as one whole life, with Christ at its centre.<\/p>\n<p>The gathering was marked by open conversation and fellowship, bringing together both new and familiar faces. MOYA expressed its gratitude to Father Eftim and Father Gavril for their talks, and to St. Mary\u2019s Parish in Sydenham for its warm hospitality.<\/p>\n<style
