straight to the point, it is clear and simple: the one who forgives all who have transgressed against him, and even his fiercest enemies, has the grace of God in himself; and the one who will not forgive even a single man, although he is his worst enemy, has a demon in himself. Forgiveness is a testimony for the presence of the grace of God, and unforgiveness is a testimony for the captivity by the demon.<\/p>\n<p>Almost the same applies about asking for forgiveness. Those who are at the second stage of the spiritual development, the illumination of the mind, even if they &#8220;want to&#8221; not to forgive, they cannot. This would mean an immediate closing of the heart for the prayer of the mind in the heart (ceaseless prayer: \u201cLord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me\u201d). Those who are at the first level, purifying \u00a0the heart from the passions, fight the battle with themselves, ascetically, in action, to forgive and ask for forgiveness.<\/p>\n<p>This is the task of \u00a0all of those who ascetise in obedience, on the level of the purification of their hearts \u00a0from the passions. Their struggle is still ascetic, because with the reason and the faith they understand \u00a0that they should forgive and force themselves to forgive, although they do not feel that way at that moment. Also, in an ascetic way (forcing themselves) they ask for forgiveness.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m talking about real forgiveness, not fantasy. Real forgiveness occurs when we pray for the one who has hurt us (or, most often, because of the higher opinion about ourselves, we think someone transgressed against us); when we do not gossip, judge and condemn the one who has hurt us; and when we help him, we do good to him and in every way we look for the ways to forgive each other and to make peace with the one who transgressed against us.<\/p>\n<p>But how can forgiveness and asking for forgiveness become a conscious struggle, and not just a struggle that we do by faith and obedience to the Gospel? It becomes a conscious struggle when we realize that the criterion of our guilt is the God-Man Christ and God&#8217;s justice, and not man and human justice. What does this mean in practice? When someone hurts us, at that moment we do not think about the justification or unjustification of his actions, but our attention is focused on whether our thoughts, words and deeds are in agreement with Christ at that moment or not! Is the same thing happening in my mind and heart that it is in Christ&#8217;s mind and heart in such a case? Do I act the same way as Christ acts with those who hurt him? Surely, not! Indeed, we are far away from that! That is where our guilt comes from and even the guilt of those who are at the level of deification, not the justification or the unjustification of the pain that others cause us &#8230; Well, that is the heart of the inexhaustible source of our repentance &#8230; Therefore never, not even a single case, we have no excuse when we do not ask for forgiveness and when we do not forgive!<\/p>\n<p>May God grant us to reach the level of deification and find out what the words of the Holy Apostle Paul mean: &#8220;I no longer live, but Christ lives in me&#8221; (Gal 2: 20) &#8211; Christ, who says on the Cross, for us still incomprehensible but surely eschatological and surely for our salvation, even for those who at the last moment will repent and ask for forgiveness: &#8220;Father, forgive them, they do not know what they are doing &#8230;&#8221;
