On the 28th Sunday after Pentecost, we reflected on the Gospel reading concerning the Lord’s invitation to a banquet. Many who were initially invited offered various reasons for their inability to attend the celebration. Consequently, the Lord, in his displeasure, dispatched his servants to gather anyone they encountered from the roads to partake in the festivities. As individuals who identify as Christians, have been baptised, and are familiar with the word of God, we too have received an invitation. However, we sometimes find ourselves making excuses that prevent us from adhering to God’s will and progressing towards the Kingdom of Heaven, to which we have been called. This illustrates the divine message that while many are invited, or possess an understanding of God and His salvation, only a select few are chosen, those who earnestly fulfill His will and orient their lives towards the Kingdom of God.
